The driver stopped before the red light, but then drove off unexpectedly quickly

Information on speed was published by the zdopravy.cz server with a link to three of its sources from the railway. At the time of the impact, the speed was to be 67 km / h.

Already on Wednesday, the Minister of Transport Karel Havlíček admitted that the speed of the train could be up to 70 km / h. According to him, the driver stopped at a red light and then drove off, which the regulations allow. It is therefore not possible for the driver to overlook the red light on the signal. But he should only go fast enough to be able to stop as soon as he saw the train in front of him.

“The driver was stopped, he started again. At a speed of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour he crashed into a postal train, which was not braked, he was still pushing him in front of him,” said Havlíček. The mail van was about to start at that moment and was not braked. If it were, the consequences of the accident would probably be much more serious.

The iRozhlas server stated that a 40-year-old man in 2017 in the same place prevented a collision with another train when they stopped 45 meters apart. This was also confirmed by Czech Railways, stating that the driver was awarded at the time.

Trains collided near Český Brod on Tuesday evening. The cab of the CityElefant passenger train was demolished, and the driver wedged in it died. The accident injured 31 people, mostly lightly. Four people had more serious injuries. The damage was estimated at 45 million crowns.

Two other trains collided on the same line on Friday. Nobody was injured. The most serious accident happened last week near Pernink, where two people died and dozens of people were injured in a collision on a single-track line. Here, too, human error was probably to blame.
