The North American currency sold at 3,836 pesos on average.

The price of the dollar in Colombia shot up again this Wednesday to an average of 3,836 pesos, reaching its maximum historical peak, as reported by the local media Week.

Driven by the declaration of a coronavirus pandemic issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), the US currency climbed to 3,908 Colombian pesos, although it later stabilized and fell 72 units at the end of the exchange day.

In the last three days, due to the fear that the growth of the coronavirus in the region caused in the markets, and the drop in the price of oil, Colombia registered a total devaluation of 10%.

Both the coronavirus crisis and the drop in oil prices have had a negative impact on the economy of several Latin American countries, especially on the price of the Colombian, Brazilian, Uruguayan, Mexican and Chilean dollars. Meanwhile, Argentina maintained stability in the exchange rate, but showed strong losses in the stock market and the country risk exceeded 2,800 points.
