Natalie Thronson, a neuroscientist at the University of Michigan, called the irreversible health effects of people who have had coronavirus. According to her, the virus has the most serious effect on the brain.
The long-term effects on the brain caused by COVID-19 include myalgic encephalomyelitis (chronic fatigue syndrome) and Gitzen-Barré syndrome (rapidly progressive autoimmune damage to the peripheral nervous system).
Natalie Thronson noted that such consequences are caused by both direct viral infection of brain tissue and the influence of the virus through infection of epithelial cells. This contributes to permanent neurological changes after the recovery from the new virus.
The neuroscientist also said that some of the symptoms of COVID-19 are actually related to the defensive responses of the immune system.
