The display, of all things, is a little more difficult to replace

The OnePlus Nord was introduced a few days ago and surprises with all kinds of high-quality hardware at its price from 399 euros (here is Caschy’s first impression). But what does it look like inside the device, where was savings made and above all: How easy is it to repair the OnePlus Nord in an emergency? IFixit has asked itself these questions again and the device in a teardown Disassembled step by step. In the first step, removing the back, it became clear that OnePlus could have attached great importance to the fact that users with the appropriate talent could even open their smartphone for small repairs if necessary.

So the back did not even have to be heated, and there are no hidden clamping cables or other obstacles. When dismantling, it is also mentioned positively that the manufacturer relies on standard Phillips screws throughout, so the screwdriver did not even have to be changed in between. According to the report, the Nord’s battery can also be removed very well, as is usual from OnePlus. The OnePlus Nord does not have an official IP certification, but when you dismantle it, it is noticeable that it uses the same rubber connection seals that gave the OnePlus 8 Pro an IP68 certification.

When it comes to repairs, it should also be helpful that components such as the USB-C connection, the vibration motor or the fingerprint sensor can all be replaced individually. Only the display is then firmly glued into the frame and requires the use of a hot air blower so that it can be removed at some point. Since this is probably the most common defective component for end users, there will be one point or another deducted from the final score in the teardown. Nevertheless, the OnePlus Nord got 6 out of 10 points and is quite high in the ranking.
