Children in Russia will not be able to get a vaccine for coronavirus yet. It will only become available after all adult testing has been completed. This was announced to RIA Novosti by the director of the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N.F. Gamaleya, Alexander Gintsburg.

“I really hope that the vaccine will be suitable for children, but according to Russian law, children can be tested for a vaccine and a new drug can be offered only when it has passed the full cycle of tests on adults,” Gunzburg said, adding that tests on children can be started after the completion of the third phase of testing.

According to Vadim Tarasov, director of the Institute of Translational Medicine and Biotechnology at Sechenov University, the decision to use the drug on children is usually made after studies on immature animals, it is too early to talk about vaccination of children. Moreover, children are not at risk and are easier to tolerate COVID-19, he said.
