The designer Enzo Mari died at 88. The he communicated Stefano Boeri, who is president of the Milan Triennale, where an exhibition of his own had begun a few days ago on Mari.
Mari was born in Cerano, Piedmont, in 1932 and in the 1950s he attended the Brera Academy in Milan. Later he devoted himself to industrial design and teaching, thus deepening both the practical aspects of design and the theoretical ones. It has won the Compasso d’Oro five times (an important industrial design award), the last of which, in 2011, with a career award.
Come he recalled the site Artribune, Mari is known, among other things, for having designed the Putrella tray, the Delfina chair and the “Waiting” waste paper basket. Mari, however, was also a well-known and respected design theorist: interested and active in avant-garde movements and bearer, he wrote Artribune, of a “highly personal theory-philosophy of design with the aim of investigating its formal, aesthetic, functional and procedural dynamics from within”.
