ABU DHABI, 20th March / WAM / His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, President-designate of the COP28 Conference, is visiting the Danish capital, Copenhagen, to co-chair the Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change with His Excellency Sameh Shoukry, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of COP27. As this is the first high-level political meeting to be held after the COP27 conference, it aims to pave the way for the success of the COP28 Conference of the Parties, which will be hosted by the UAE at the end of this year, and to follow up on the implementation of the goals of the Paris Agreement, and the results and outcomes of the COP27 conference.

The meeting, hosted by the Government of Denmark, is attended by a number of climate ministers and senior government officials from developed and developing countries, including France, Japan, the Maldives, Samoa, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, along with Simon Steel, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and Selwyn Hart, Advisor Special Special to the UN Secretary-General on Climate Action.

His Excellency will deliver the opening speech during the meeting, and he will chair a number of plenary sessions that take place within its activities. He will seek to support reaching an agreement on common goals for climate action, and encourage climate ministers to commit to implementing more measures during the year 2023 through the issues of adaptation, mitigation, and transition. Jennifer Morgan, Minister of State and Germany’s Special Envoy for International Climate Action, and H.E. Muhammad Shahabuddin, Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change of Bangladesh.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber said – on this occasion -: “In line with the vision of leadership in the UAE, we are working to intensify efforts and enhance communication and cooperation with all concerned parties in preparation for the successful hosting of the COP28 Conference, which is an important milestone in global climate action. And with the approaching global tally to assess progress made in implementing the goals of the Paris Agreement, it is clear that we need to unite efforts to raise the bar of ambition and accelerate climate action.”

His Excellency added: “It is important that our joint efforts focus on ensuring the availability of sufficient means and resources to help all countries adapt to the effects of climate repercussions, and support their ambitions to mitigate these repercussions, in conjunction with ensuring the achievement of a just, logical, gradual and realistic transition in the energy sector. And to achieve this Concessional and appropriate financing for adaptation, loss and damage, and technologies to support the deployment of clean energy sources will be essential.

This visit to Copenhagen is the latest in the global listening tour undertaken by His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber in his capacity as President-designate of the COP28 Conference, which aims to meet and listen to the views of a group of partners across governments, civil society, youth, the private sector, and representatives of international organizations and organisations. non-governmental

His Excellency made a series of visits to India, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the United States, and it is planned that His Excellency will visit other countries, including a group of developing countries and small island states.
