The cancer he had been battling for 18 months finally won. He was 43 years old.

On Saturday March 25, Andrew Lloyd Webber announced the death of his son, Nicholas Lloyd Webber, in the south of England. For 18 months, the composer had been fighting against stomach cancer which ended up winning. He was 43 years old. The composer of cult musicals such as “Cats” and “The Phantom of the Opera” himself announced on Twitter: “I am devastated to have to announce that my beloved son Nick died a few hours ago at Basingstoke Hospital. His whole family is reunited and we are all totally lost”he wrote.

Last Thursday, Andrew Lloyd Webber had already published a video on social networks to give news of the state of health of his son. He explained that the latter was suffering from pneumonia “due to his terrible cancer”, and that he was returning to a palliative care center.

Like father, like son

Following in his father’s footsteps, Nicholas Lloyd Webber had also embarked on a musical career as a composer and producer. We owe him in particular the production and staging of the “Little Prince” in a musical version. In 2022, he was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of best musical album, for having contributed to the disc of “Bad Cinderella”, a production of his father.

Andrew Lloyd Webber is one of the few artists to have achieved EGOT status, meaning he has been hailed with Emmy Awards (one trophy), Grammy Awards (three), Oscars (one) and the Tony Awards (six). For his coronation, which will take place on May 6, King Charles III has also asked him to write a title.
