If we look for logic, Moldova could be Russia’s next victim. This was announced by the Minister of Defense Dragomir Zakov to BTV. The reason for his comment was the assumptions about the next goal of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the successful conclusion of hostilities in Ukraine.

He clarified that at the moment the Bulgarian army ensures the security of the country, but in case of a serious escalation of tensions, help can be sought. Such help could be provided in a few days. Zakov stressed that only at Bulgaria’s request can additional NATO forces come to the country.

The Minister of Defense once again said that at the moment there is no way for Bulgaria to provide fighter jets to Ukraine. He explained that less than half of our MiG-29s are flying because they have various problems. This, in turn, posed a new serious problem.

“We need to make urgent decisions in the next few months. Russia will not be able to fulfill its obligations under the repair and maintenance contract. However, we must continue to protect our airspace,” Zakov added.

According to him, there is still no concrete decision to help Ukraine with weapons. He clarified that the country needs ammunition and weapons, but had specific requirements regarding their types and quantity. Zakov also commented on the development of the war so far.

“Putin surprised himself with what he did. He expected a quick victory and the Ukrainian leadership to leave the country quickly. He also expected a split in NATO and the EU. He is already out of any scenarios he had planned,” he said.
