The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will be developed in CD Project Red’s new Boston studio

According to Quest Director Paweł Sasko, CD Project Red is moving the core team of Cyberpunk 2077 to a new studio in Boston. The team is responsible for the development of the game’s sequel, which, despite its erratic release, has been very successful and has enjoyed extreme popularity, especially recently. This news comes after the recent announcement of a new US-based studio called CD Projekt Red North America. Work on Orion, and with it the transfer of parts of the team to Boston, will begin after the release of Phantom Liberty next year. With this expansion of the development studio, CD Projekt hopes to be able to tap into both European and American talent.

I will be moving to Boston with the core team responsible for Cyberpunk 2077 to found a new studio and be the base for the North American team.

This was announced on Tuesday by Sasko in a tweet that has garnered a lot of attention ever since. In the tweet, he explained: “I see you are asking, so I want to clarify it. After the release of Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, my main focus will be on the new Cyberpunk 2077 project codenamed Orion!

I will be moving to Boston with the core team responsible for Cyberpunk 2077 to build a new studio and lay the foundation for the North American team. Together with the Vancouver crew and the Warsaw developers, we will bring you a cracker with the next game! “

This is great news for fans of the game, as it means there is finally progress on the sequel. There is also an overview of CD Projekt’s development plans for the future. With two studios now working on studio projects, the speed and scope of their projects are sure to increase. It will be interesting to see how efficiently the studio expansion can be accomplished and what impact the additional talent will have. But it will definitely mean more RPGs in a shorter amount of time for fans, not least because two The Witcher games are in preparation in external studios. It was also announced that there will soon be a new The Witcher trilogy, which will start with The Witcher 4 (“Project Polaris”) and will be released within 6 years. This is therefore in parallel with CD Project’s work on a new IP and the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
