The Crowded Room’s Tom Holland takes year-long break from acting after intense role

Tom Holland was loved by a large number of fans as Spider-Man’s good neighbor. But he plays a mentally disturbed young man in the new crime series The Crowded Room. This role absorbed him too much, so he recently announced that he plans to take a year off from acting.

What was the most challenging part of filming for Tom Holland? And why did he suddenly want to shave his head at one point?

In the psychological thriller A Crowded Room, Tom Holland plays Danny Sullivan, a young man who is arrested in 1979 for his involvement in the Rockefeller Center shooting. This is a story that is inspired by the real life of the criminal Billy Milligan. He was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder. People with this disorder suffer, for example, from memory loss, depression, anxiety or have various alter egos.

Spider-Man as an actor and producer

Filming the series was all the more challenging for Tom Holland, as he was not only an actor in it, but also its producer. „It was certainly a difficult time. We were exploring certain emotions that I had definitely never experienced before. And on top of all that, I was a producer and dealt with the day-to-day problems that come with making any film, which just added to the pressure,“ explained the representative of Spider-Man in an interview with Extra TV, which was quoted by the magazine Variety.

The actor goes on to say that he is definitely no stranger to hard work. He especially enjoyed being able to try out the work of a producer. But juggling between the two positions backfired on him. „That show broke me. There came a time when I needed to rest, I disappeared and went to Mexico for a week, where I spent my time lying on the beach,“ revealed how he felt during filming.

A break from acting

„I’m taking a year off now, it’s a result of how demanding this show has been. I look forward to seeing how it turns out. I feel like our hard work wasn’t in vain“ he expressed himself. During filming, he experienced a moment when he almost completely collapsed. Danny Sullivan’s character from the series got under his skin.
