The Croatian startup that will command the future of Bugatti

Rimac is a company that is not satisfied with just the production of fast electric cars.

Yes, their Rimac C-Two accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h and attracts fans of electric runners from Asia, through Dubai and the United States, but the latest series of deals of the company, which is registered in Croatia, suggest far greater ambitions.

Earlier this month, it became clear that Rimac buys 55 percent of the shares in a new company that will be called Bugatti Rimac.

At the same time, Mate Rimac, the founder of Rimac, retains 35 percent of the shares of his original company and acquires a certain share of assets in Porsche and Hyundai.

The businessman, who is only 33 years old, admits to “Car and Driver” that working with Bugatti has been his dream for a long time and that when he hears about a fast and powerful car, he immediately thinks of this brand.

Rimaz recalls that the Veyron and Chyron are record-breakers in speed in their car class, but at the same time he is deeply convinced that the future of cars, even the fastest ones, is electric. That is why he wants to unite his colleagues around a common idea and lead them to a world in which motoring is entirely electric.

Because as impressive as the performance of the Veyron or Chyron is, it can’t be compared to that of the Rimac C-Two, which has 1241 horsepower. That’s why Bugatti, which is under the auspices of the Volkswagen Group, decided to join forces with Rimac and his company to create new models of electric supercars.

Rimac himself emphasizes that Bugatti and Rimac will remain two separate companies, each of which retains its current portfolio.

The Croatian businessman says he is “extremely curious” about what will come out of his collaboration with Bugatti.

From 2023, Rimac Bugatti’s technology and engineering team will move to a brand new campus on the outskirts of Zagreb, which will employ a total of 2,500 people. For comparison, Rimac currently employs no more than 430 people. Rimac emphasizes that all the work on the design of electric cars will be carried out in Croatia.

One thing is clear – in a year or two, the electric motors that Rimac is developing will replace Bugatti’s internal combustion engines.

Bugatti CEO Stefan Winkelmann told Britain’s Autocar that the aim was to combine his company’s rich experience with the incredible innovative thinking of Rimac and his teams.

“Their ability to electrify their cars will combine with our heritage in design and workmanship,” said Winkelmann.

The news of the new joint project between the two car manufacturers comes with the news that the production of Bugatti Chiron it will gradually stop.

Exactly 40 more pieces will be made from the sports car, with which the cars produced by the model will reach 500 in number. The company emphasizes that despite the price of Chiron – between 2.5 and 3.4 million euros – most of the latest models have already been ordered.

The version that will be sold has the typical Bugatti W16 engine and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in about 2.6 seconds.

From there, we will certainly see a beast like Chiron, it will simply no longer be powered by gasoline, but by an electric heart.

The debutant in this field is called bZ4X, and the abbreviation bZ comes from
