the creative director fired by Ubisoft, the reasons given

It is in an internal note to the company that Kotaku managed to obtain that we learn this Friday August 15 that Ubisoft has made the decision to fire Ashraf Ismail from his studio in Montreal. The man was accused since June 21 of having had sex with streamer Dani, without having revealed to him his status as a married man. He would have reiterated with many other women, each time without informing of his marriage.

Investigation and decision

It is in the score obtained by Kotaku that we learn that this decision follows an investigation carried out by a company outside Ubisoft, which concluded that it was necessary to permanently fire Ashraf Ismail from the company. The memo, intended for employees, states that all details of the investigation are classified and cannot be disclosed.

Ashraf joined Ubisoft in 2009. He notably held the position of director of the game. Assassin’s Creed : Origins and creative director on Assassin’s Creed : Valhalla, before being forced to withdraw following the accusations.

The dismissal follows other layoffs and forced resignations due to multiple accusations of sexual harassment revealed between June and July. These had for example already led to the resignation on July 12 of Serge Hascoët, creative director and No. 2 of the company, accused of moral and sexual harassment as well as of consuming hard drugs on the premises of the company.

Finally, since all departures are not made public by the firm, it is likely that other departures were organized following the various surveys launched a few weeks ago. Another note posted on the company’s internal messaging on August 10, that Kotaku also managed to get hold of, said:

Although we do not always make the results of various investigations public, those involved, including victims and those affected by the investigation will be informed of their results, including subsequent disciplinary sanctions, if any.
