The Covid-19 Theory Leaks from the Laboratory Should not be Underestimated, WHO Must Be Fair

Suara.com – A group of leading scientists from various countries asked the world health organization, WHO, to seriously research the theory that says origin Covid-19 from the laboratory.

As is commonly known, Covid-19 was first detected on Wuhan, China at the end of 2019. Now the virus has killed 3.34 million people, caused trillions of dollars in losses, and damaged millions of people around the world.

“Further investigations are needed to determine the origin of this pandemic,” the group of 18 scientists wrote in a letter published by the journal. Science on Friday (14/5/2021).

They further said the theory which believes that the virus was leaked from a laboratory and the theory that suggests zoonotic events – the transfer of viruses from animals to humans – are still equally acceptable.

One of the two theories can only be eliminated if the WHO has obtained sufficient and convincing data.

This urge was conveyed in response to the results of a WHO investigation in March which said that it was almost impossible for Covid-19 to originate from the laboratory. WHO, for four weeks in the period January – February 2021, did an investigation in China.

The WHO, whose report was co-authored with Chinese scientists, confirms that it is likely corona virus Sars Cov-2 that triggers Covid-19 comes from an animal which then jumps on to humans.

But according to the scientists who wrote this open letter, the WHO has been unfair in examining these two theories. In his letter mentioned that of the 313 pages of the report about the origins of Covid-19 compiled by WHO, only 4 pages discussing laboratory theory.

They also quoted WHO Director General Tedros Ghebreyesus’ comments who said that the evidence about the Covid-19 theory came from incomplete laboratories and suggested that the evidence be sought again so that the investigation was truly complete.

The researchers who wrote the letter included Ravindra Gupta, a microbiologist from the University of Cambridge, England; Jesse Bloom, an expert on viral evolution at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, USA; and David Relman, a microbiologist at Stanford University, USA.
