“So mitigation and prevention are needed as a form of preparation for other health problems to occur,” he said.

One of them is to satisfy the need for sufficient and quality water so that the vital organs of the body can function properly. It’s just that the frenzy and dense activities sometimes cause people to neglect to consume water and cause dehydration.

“One thing that is often forgotten by people is the importance of water in the human body. In fact, water in the body is very important. Without sufficient and quality water, vital organs cannot function properly. Unfortunately, they cannot function properly. everyone realizes the great function of water in the body so they often drink less, “said the head of the FKUI nutrition department, Dr. Nurul Ratna, M. Gizi, SpGK.

Research currently shows that 1 in 5 children and adolescents do not drink enough and 1 in 4 adults also do not drink enough. Considering that at least everyone is advised to drink at least 2 liters per day for adults and 1.2 liters per day for children.

“It is also important to pay attention to the criteria for good drinking water, which is colorless, odorless, tasteless and contains no harmful substances. It is also important to remember that we must ensure that the water source is pure, quality and protected,” He he said.

Nurul explained that one of the main functions of water is to regulate the temperature so that the body remains stable in hot conditions. Another function of water is to hydrate the mucous membrane, especially in the mouth, nose and eyes.

“So don’t be surprised if the area inside the nose is wet. The mouth is also normally wet, there is saliva. No wonder that when we fast, we feel that the mucous membrane of your mouth is very dry”, he said.

Water also protects the organs and tissues of the body. Not only that, water also prevents constipation, because before being excreted in the form of feces, water is absorbed by the body.

“If you drink less, absorption into the body in the large intestine will also decrease. As a result, the consistency of the stool will also become harder and make defecation difficult,” he explained.

Furthermore, water also works to dissolve nutrients and transport them to various parts of the body. So, if there is a lack of water, then obviously the process of transporting nutrients to all organs of the body will be disrupted.

Water also carries oxygen to other tissues in the body. In addition to carrying nutrients, the blood also distributes oxygen and iron to various tissues in the body. The transfer of oxygen in dehydrated people will also be hampered.

Another benefit is to get rid of metabolic wastes and help biochemical processes. “So in the human body there is a biochemical process to digest carbohydrates, proteins, fats. Everyone needs water as a buffer. Without water, the body cannot metabolize these substances. And, of course, your metabolism will also be disturbed, “she said.
