The concert “You Only Sing” will honor the centenary of composer Elga Igenberga / Article

On Elga’s Day, October 9, in the White Hall of the Riga Latvian Society (RLB), the RLB senior choir “eReLBe” invites to commemorate the “pioneer” of the Latvian stage, composers Elga Igenbergs on the 100th anniversary, RLB representatives informed.

The concert will feature the RLB senior choir “eReLBe”, the ensemble “Cretan Fresco”, Jānis Kurševs (tenor) and an accompanying group led by Ansis Klučs. Concert master Māris Žagars, the concert will be conducted by the choir’s artistic director Zaiga Lazdiņa-Radziņa.

Visitors to the concert will be introduced to a selection of the most beautiful songs by Elga Igenberga performed by the choir “eReLBe”. Elga Igenberg has dedicated a special composition to the singers “You Only Sing”, which, along with many other compositions by the composer, will be performed at the October 9 concert at the Riga Latvian Society.

“The aim of the concert dedicated to Elga Igenberga’s work is to introduce younger listeners, as well as to recall the lyrical compositions of the outstanding composer, to highlight the heartfelt songs that allow you to immerse yourself in light sentiment, to turn over everyday problems with a clear view,” explained the concert.

The singers of the RLB senior choir “EReLBe” are those who, under the direction of conductor Ārija Šķepasts, created and from May 1, 1999 participated in Elga Igenberga’s song program “Tonight I want to dream”. The concertmaster was the author herself. Many of the songs sung at that time have remained in the choir’s “golden” repertoire, but this year, in honor of the authors’ 100th anniversary, a new program has been prepared.

The concert was made with the support of the Education, Culture and Sports Department of the Riga City Council.

The concert can be attended by those spectators who have been vaccinated against Covid-19, as well as those spectators who have become ill with Covid-19 in the last 6 months. When attending the concert, it is necessary to present an interoperable Covid-19 certificate together with an identity document.
