Head of the West Jakarta City Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-Department, Iwan Indriyanto, hopes to continue to cooperate with SmartHeart Indonesia in the next year’s free rabies vaccination to prevent rabies in Indonesia.

“We hope that next year SmartHeart Indonesia can hold a free rabies vaccination, because it is very necessary to carry out a massive rabies vaccination to prevent this dangerous disease,” said Iwan as quoted from an official broadcast on Tuesday.

Veterinarian Aulia Jasmine emphasized the dangers of rabies if not controlled.

“Rabies is one of the world’s strategic diseases that are zoonotic (transmitted from animals to humans) with a high mortality rate. Effective control of rabies is through prevention through rabies vaccination,” said Aulia, veterinarian of PT Perfect Companion Indonesia.

Aulia added, most of Indonesia is not free of rabies. Only a small proportion have the status of zero cases of rabies, including the capital city. Since 2004, the Ministry of Agriculture has designated DKI Jakarta as a rabies-free province.

World Rabies Day is a global campaign held on September 28 every year. This warning is intended to increase public awareness of the prevention of rabies.

Free rabies vaccination was also carried out in other places, including Tangerang, which was organized by the Food Security Service of the Tangerang City Government, Sunday (26/9). In total there are a thousand vaccines provided for animal owners as an effort to anticipate rabies.
