The cloudy market in the Czech Republic exceeded 10 billion last year, Microsoft clearly rules

Expenditures for the cloud in the Czech Republic in 2019 reached $ 433.1 million, which is more than ten billion crowns. This is a year-on-year growth of 27.1 percent, and the cloud thus surpasses most other categories in the IT market in this respect. Between 2019 and 2024, the year-on-year growth rate is expected to remain at more than 17 percent, bringing the Czech market closer to one billion dollars. They show it new IDC statistics.

Most of the expenditure last year went to public clouds, this area grew by 28.9 percent. Dominant is software as a service (SaaS), which has taken 74.2 percent of this market. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) has 14.1 percent and Platform as a Service (PaaS) has reached 11.7 percent of the market.

The Czech market is ruled by Microsoft. “The ten largest providers of cloud solutions and services in the Czech Republic serve more than half of the local market. With one exception, these are multinational companies with global operations. The market leader is Microsoft with almost a fifth share, followed by Unicorn, SAP, Salesforce.com and Amazon Web Services (AWS), ”says IDC.

Microsoft managed to penetrate the market, among other things, thanks to a long-term strong domestic branch and the involvement of a large network of partners. As we recently wrote at Lupa, Amazon started to react to this and established a branch for AWS in the Czech Republic.

“There is a relatively high level of competition on the Czech cloud services market. In some segments, in addition to global players, local telecommunications operators or data center operators are also gaining ground. The situation forces providers to continuously innovate their offerings and update pricing plans, ”describes IDC.

The analysis of the Czech market comes at a time when in Europe begins to address Gaia-X, a European cloud project. Among other things, you should be a reaction to the dominance of American cloud players. The Czechia is considering how to join the primarily German-French event. Politico writes againthat the European Commission is preparing regulation against American clouds.

“The largest customers of public cloud services in the Czech Republic are companies from the business services sector (23.5 percent), industry (18.5 percent), business (12.5 percent) and finance (10.1 percent). About a third of their turnover comes from organizations with 100 to 499 employees. In the private cloud segment, financial institutions (21 percent) and retail and wholesale companies (15.1 percent) generate the largest expenses. They are closely followed by industrial companies with a share of 14.3 percent. Less than half of the turnover in the private cloud segment comes from organizations with 100 to 499 employees, ”says IDC.

The operation and deployment of clouds is accompanied by other expenses that go to the management, support and implementation of projects: “Their total volume in the Czech Republic is almost equal to the expenses for cloud services as such. That was $ 392.8 million last year. “
