“We used to go to a ‘Thuis’ fan day together.” According to friend and classmate Freija, it was written in the stars that Tine Priem (34) was going to act. At school she was already a social and carefree teenage girl. Tine looks back on her first kiss, the most popular girls who bully and the stress of speaking engagements. “In that profession it was always with the heels over the ditch.”

“I went to the Mijlpaal in Drongen in both kindergarten and primary education. The playground was big, so I asked my classmates to do a sprint. I ended up with my teeth on a concrete seat because I wanted to win. The following weeks I was only allowed to eat sandwiches and I dipped them in my chocolate milk. I still have that crack in my tooth. My first kiss was in that sixth, with Robin, the big and blond boy. It was a wonderful time of flippos, stretchers, skipping ropes and marbles.”

“The most popular sixth grade girl decided that I could be her best friend. I thought that was cool, but also felt that I didn’t fit in 100 percent. Sometimes she would bully, and I couldn’t. Afterwards I checked with those classmates if everything was okay. Although I never intervened for fear of being bullied myself. I tried to keep every classmate happy.”

“Now I am someone who stands up for others and for myself. Freija was an intense girlfriend. Lynn and I didn’t get along very well then, because I took her best friend Freija away. So the typical story. (laughs) It only grew in secondary school and now we are still very good friends.”

“Saying that I didn’t even dare to give speeches in sixth grade”

“With master Tijl we were allowed to write on the front of the board to complete sentences. That feeling of the white chalk, wonderful. He was a super good teacher, creative and correct. I also remember my four out of ten for math. In that profession it was always with the heels over the ditch. In the fourth secondary school I had a B-certificate and I opted for art secondary education. A happy accident.”

“And say that I didn’t even dare to give speeches in that sixth grade. They only had to say my name and my cheeks were already glowing. Now I still have that. The moment I introduce myself at an audition, I still die of stress.”

“I doubled my sixth and was previously in class with Tine’s big brother. A great moment was the party at master Tijl, at home in Deinze. Tine remembers that too, because we talked about it the other day. There I got to know the class and Tine very well.”

“She was enthusiastic, always had lots of friends and was not the silent learner. Although I had not yet realized that she would become an actress. There is a video in which she is proudly performing in front of the camera with her new microphone, which she received from Sinterklaas.”

“She is still that social person from back then, who laughs a lot and sees the positive in everything. Outwardly she has changed; in the class photo she still had brown hair and lots of curls. We still get together with our high school friends. I lived not far from Tine and we cycled to the atheneum together. I find it special and above all very nice that the contact has remained.”

“Great to see that class photo again, I no longer have it myself. Tine and I have had great moments both at school and outside. We had the same interests and regularly met at each other’s homes at weekends.”

“Although we chatted a lot, we spent most of our time learning the steps of Steps, our favorite music group. We also collected clippings of that pop group from magazines such as Joepie.”

“Tine was loved by the whole class because she was always so friendly and provided a comical touch. Her big dream was to become an actress like Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz. She used to think a role in ‘Thuis’ was the max. We even went to such a ‘Thuis’ day together. I find it unbelievable that that dream has come true.”
