The city of Rottweil participates in the Baden-Württemberg Sustainability Days

ROTTWEIL – The city of Rottweil participates in the Baden-Württemberg state sustainability days with a wide range of activities. As part of the Baden-Württemberg sustainability strategy, numerous municipalities, associations, institutions and individuals participate in the statewide Sustainability Days every year. The campaign period runs from 18 September to 8 October this year, with the main days focusing on climate protection taking place from 23 to 26 September.

During this period, activities in Rottweil also draw attention to the commitment of the state. The Sustainability Days make it clear how varied, creative and colorful is the sustainable commitment of local authorities and people.

Terra Preta allows a sustainable use of biomass through the use of microorganisms: A good example from the city of Rottweil is the recycling of leaves and green waste that the city depot collects and must dispose of throughout the year. About 1500 cubic meters of leaves and large amounts of green waste provide the best basis for the project, where a nutrient-rich soil, the so-called terra preta, is produced from biomass. Another component is biochar, which is currently delivered from Freiburg. Microorganisms are also added to the mixture. Covered, the curing process begins. After two or three months of constant monitoring of the Earth’s temperature, the process is complete.

“Terra Preta is an important example of a circular economy for saving resources,” explains Albert Schmidt, initiator and employee of the civil engineering department. In a guided tour with practical examples, he explains the numerous positive properties such as the accumulation of water or nutrients, which “black gold” means for sustainable use of the soil. The guided tour takes place on Tuesday 27 September 2022 at 3:30 pm.

Another highlight will take place on Saturday 24th September at 2.30pm. This afternoon there is the opportunity to participate in a guided tour of the Höllenstein mule track. The Höllenstein recreation area is located east of the city and, in addition to the amazing flora and geology, it also offers impressive views over the city.

Buy eco-friendly and with confidence: Browse, smell, feel, taste – shopping at Rottweil’s weekly market can be a real experience. And not only that, fruit and vegetables straight from the field, aromatic honey from the regional beekeeper or freshly scented baked goods from the local baker, the foods of the region often simply taste better.

A short distance weekly market offers even more benefits. Many make the visit on foot or by bicycle, so that once again the car can be left at home. Freight transport routes are often significantly shorter, which means lower CO2 emissions. In addition to a positive effect on the ecological footprint, farmers and market suppliers are directly supported during their purchases and the region’s economy is further strengthened.

The weekly Rottweil market takes place in the center of Obere Hauptstrasse. During the period of the Sustainability Days campaign, the market will take place on Saturday 24 September. from 7:00 to 13:00 and is therefore ideal for slow shopping.

All weekend tours are free and can be booked in advance via the event calendar at www.tourismus-rottweil.de or via the tourist information office. Last minute attendees are also welcome.
