The city of Montluçon (Allier) continues to install CO2 sensors and air purifiers in schools

The city of Montluçon is continuing to install air purifiers and CO2 sensors in restaurants and classrooms in public schools. One way, underlines Manuela De Castro Alves, the assistant in charge of school affairs, “to complete the school protocols put in place in the establishments”.

The last sensors installed by the end of the month

The deployment of this equipment began at the start of the All Saints holidays, “as soon as we had government directives”, explains the elected official. And to specify: “It is a bit laborious to have them knowing that all the communities have placed an order at the same time. »

In all, 132 CO2 sensors have or will be installed in each of the classes in the city. Schools that do not yet have their device should be equipped by the end of January.

It accompanies teachers who cannot spend their time looking at their watch to know when to air the room. When the sensor flashes, they know it’s time to open the windows to get some fresh air.

Thirteen purifiers will be commissioned in 2022

Eighteen UV air purifiers, purchased from the Montluçonnaise company MasterMeca, have also been installed in school canteens. Thirteen others will be soon so that all the canteens are equipped. “We made this choice because at mealtimes, the students do not wear their masks, specifies the assistant. However, these devices can be moved, for example for a meeting. »

Among the schools still to be equipped: Jean-Moulin, Voltaire, Aimé-Desnos, Paul-Fort, Jean-Giono, Pauline-Kergomard, Paul-Lafargue, Frédéric-Mistral and Jean-Renoir.

The cost to the city

The city bore the expense alone. That is an amount of 23,481 euros for the sensors, 38,437 euros for the first eighteen purifiers, and 27,760 euros for the last thirteen which have yet to be put into service.

With the covid crisis, MasterMeca, the machining company in Montluçon (Allier) has diversified its activity by offering air and surface purifiers
