Things are going better but it is not yet… The accounts of the commune of Lamentin are improving… The latest opinion of the Regional Chamber of Accounts which has just appeared explains this.

The Regional Chamber of Accounts scrutinized the 2019 administrative account and the original 2020 budget … If the accounts are still in the red, it is much better than before.
The institution nevertheless asks the Prefect to settle the initial 2020 budget in accordance with his recommendations.
The recovery process is working
A 2019 administrative account in deficit of just over a million euros and this in particular thanks to the finances of the Ravine Chaude thermal center. Le Lamentin is therefore today far from the abyss of 6 million euros, of 2018 …
This result is still not balanced, the recovery process put in place has borne fruit. The CRC had in fact asked the municipality to reduce its charges, stop recruiting, not to replace retirements but also to increase its revenue by improving tax collection.
The sale of certain real estate has enabled it to replenish its funds but on more sustainable measures, it still has a little work to do according to the CRC.
The future of Ravine Chaude important for the finances of the municipality
The original 2020 budget is not balanced mainly because of insufficient funding for investments. But the recourse to the loan now possible again could give it a little breath and allow it to get out of its recovery plan.
As for the somewhat more distant future of the municipality’s accounts, it will depend on the future of Ravine Chaude. The aqualudic center should shortly be transformed into a public administrative establishment endowed with financial autonomy.
