The Citizens Comeback, Beat Spurs 4-2

Manchester City create a sensational comeback to turn the beat around Tottenham Hotspur 4-2. Man City trailed by two goals in the first half.

Man City hosts Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League continued, Friday (20/1/2023) early morning WIB. Riyad Mahrez inspired the victory for the home team after scoring two goals and one assist.

The Spurs are surprising the Citizens first after scoring two goals ahead of halftime through Dejan Kulusevski and Emerson Royal. However, Man City responded in the second half.

Pep Guardiola’s troops appeared to be crazy by shooting four goals against Tottenham each through Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland and a pair of Mahrez goals.

With this victory, Man City remains in second place standings after collecting 42 points from 19 matches. The Blue Sky cut the distance with the competition leader, Arsenal, who will still play matches at the weekend.

On the other hand, Tottenham are stuck in fifth place. Spurs have collected 33 points from 20 matches, five points adrift of Newcastle United in the top four with one game less.

Course of the Match

Manchester City dominated possession in the early minutes. Man City’s free kick that was executed by Riyad Mahrez only hit Tottenham’s living fence.

Julian Alvarez’s bait for Jack Grealish in the penalty box was blocked by Eric Dier. Tottenham responded through Emerson Royal’s long-range shot which still flew high over the Man City bar.

In the 36th minute, Tottenham created an opportunity. Kulusevski’s cross was greeted by Son Heung-min with a header even though the ball was still headed into Ederson’s arms.

Four minutes later, Man City’s attack was ended by Rico Lewis with a powerful strike from the front of area D. The ball curled towards the goalpost, but Hugo Lloris made a great save.

Man City is getting closer to its first goal. Mahrez’ collaboration with Rodri was continued with a cross into the penalty box. Unfortunately, Erling Haaland’s header went wide.

GOAL! The stalemate was broken. Tottenham opened the scoring in the 45th minute. The Spurs took advantage of Ederson’s blunder.

After receiving a backpass from Nathan Ake, Ederson passed to Rodri but the ball was snatched away by Rodrigo Bentancur. The ball was then completed by Dejan Kulusevski with a shot into the bottom corner of the net. The Spurs lead 1-0.

Tottenham only needed two minutes to increase their advantage over Man City to 2-0. Harry Kane won the ball in the penalty box then fired a shot which Ederson parried. A wild ball was struck by Emerson Royal from in front of the goal.

Man City immediately responded after the second half kickoff. Julian Alvarez scored a goal to make it 1-2 in the 51st minute.

Mahrez’s action on the right flank was continued by crossing into the middle of the penalty box and then creating chaos in front of the goal. Alvarez finished with a volley to beat Lloris’ marker.

GOAL! Man City is up. Haaland thrilled the Spurs goal to balance the game at 2-2 in the 54th minute.

Rodri released a gastric bait which Mahrez continued with a header. The ball bounced before Haaland finished with an easy header from in front of the goal.

Spurs almost scored a third goal. Kulusevski was free on the right flank then sent a low cross. Ivan Perisic continued with a shot inside the penalty box, but Lewis’s interception made the ball just hit the Man City crossbar.

GOAL! In the 63rd minute, Man City finally turned to beat Tottenham 3-2. Mahrez weaved and then beat Perisic’s guard before finishing with a shot from a tight angle into the bottom corner of the Spurs goal.

Eleven minutes later, Tottenham trying to threaten Man City. Son’s cross from the right was continued by Cristian Romero, but his volley went wide.

Man City ended Tottenham’s resistance. In the 90th minute, Mahrez scored his second goal to give Man City a 4-2 lead. Ederson’s goal kick forward failed to clear Clement Lenglet, the ball was then controlled by Mahrez who finished with a shot that went over Lloris’ head.
