The Chadian junta and the opposition will sign an agreement to start national reconciliation talks

A delegation of the Chadian military junta, led by Mahamat Debi, as well as representatives of opposition parties and armed rebel groups arrived in Doha at the end of the week.

Under the agreement, which is expected to be signed today, the junta and rebels will cease armed fighting, while governments will pledge to protect rebel leaders who will participate in national reconciliation talks. They should begin on August 20 in Chad’s capital, N’Djamena, and culminate in the announcement of new elections.
