Marcin Iwiński – co-founder and one of the CEOs of the CD Projekt group – is the protagonist of the new material dedicated to Cyberpunk 2077. In a short video, the CEO apologizes for the mistakes he made, explains how they happened and draws a plan for the future.
The management taking responsibility (at least in terms of the image) for the mistakes made is a phenomenon that is rare. Especially in Western video game corporations. There have been too many situations in which the wrong decisions made at the top were paid for by workers’ and committed pits, often with their own health, their own salary and their own career. From this perspective, the public apology of Marcin Iwiński – the co-founder of CD Projekt – should be considered something good, necessary and commendable.
I am not only convinced that the translations of the president of CD Projekt will convince everyone.
According to Iwiński’s message, almost everything is to blame for the technologically outdated consoles of the past generation and the coronavirus pandemic. Listening to CD Projekt’s co-founder, I felt as if he was really happy with the quality of Cyberpunk 2077 on PC. This can be understood from the perspective sensational sale of this game on personal computers, but it’s not like the CP77 on PS4 and XONE was and still is causing problems.
I beat Cyberpunk 2077 on the Xbox Series X and on PC. Already after two hastily issued hotfixes. And while the personal computer experience was indeed the best, it wasn’t that the PC edition was devoid of cardinal and compromising bugs. Cars collapsing underground, drivers levitating in the air, heroes losing objects in their hands, enemies disappearing in elevators, sudden death (heart attack?) During a leisurely walk … these are all my own experiences gained during over 100 hours in Night City.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a game with an open structure and an open world. Hence, each player can have different experiences and adventures. Some of us encountered error after error, while others had relatively few. It all depended on tons of variables generating unique, unpredictable situations. However, even with that in mind, Cyberpunk 2077 was fuller of compromising bugs for me than the most undercooked Assassin’s Creed or The Elder Scrolls. Meanwhile, Iwiński narrates that the PC version is cut almost like a diamond on a jewelery shop window.

CD Projekt has a clear, precise recovery plan for its newest and most famous brand. The development studio intends to focus on catching and fixing bugs on all hardware platforms. We will feel the first effects of this work in ten days, when the game will receive a huge update marked with the number 1.1. Update 1.2 is to be released soon, fixing another set of the most serious bugs.
Post-patch 1.2 will be a time of minor bug fixes and updates as well as deployment promised free DLC. In the original assumption, the DLC was supposed to appear earlier, but the studio decided to prioritize eliminating bugs. In my opinion, this is a very good direction. When I return to the game for new story missions, I want to enjoy the best patched, streamlined and polished environment.
I’m sorry for that for the suggested Cyberpunk 2077 release date for new consoles. The edition dedicated to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series will not appear until the second half of 2021. Great, great pity. I was counting on my next Cyberpunk adventure is taking place on PS5, using the additional capabilities of the new Sony platform, such as instant resource loading, higher resolution or even point ray tracing. Unfortunately, it turns out that the DLC will be transferred to the Xbox Series X in backward compatibility.
This is just the beginning of your adventure with Cyberpunk 2077. This game will be with us for years.
We are at the stage of the first major updates improving the quality of the base game. Some time later, we will receive a set of short story DLCs. We still have great story expansions in the Blood and Wine style for the third Witcher. We also can’t forget about the standalone multiplayer module that seems partly reminiscent of GTA Online. Added to this is the version for new consoles, animation for Netflix … there is no doubt that interactive Cyberpunk is a brand that will stay with us for many, many years. It is all the more pity that its foundations turned out to be so shaky.
Fortunately, CD Projekt took the right direction, focusing primarily on fixing bugs and improving quality. Personally, I keep my fingers crossed for a better work culture in the Polish studio, more effective communication between the middle and high level, as well as greater expenditure and an increase in the position of the QA department, which is responsible for monitoring the quality of the product.
