“Around noon, we received a report of the canoe overturning two paddlers on the weir. There is now a lot of water in the Lužnice,” police spokesman Milan Bajcura told TN.cz.
After the click, the paddlers immediately began to drown in a strong current. Rescuers managed to find one in the water and consciously pull it ashore.
“The men were then taken to the Tábor hospital,” confirmed Vendula Matějů, a spokeswoman for the fire brigade.
The second man has not yet been found. Divers have also been sent to the site to search for the missing paddler in the water.
“It is possible that the paddler remained wedged under the cylinder in the weir, or the current moved him somewhere further in the direction of Veselí,” Bajcura specified.
All components of the Integrated Rescue System intervene on the spot.
