The canceled Atlanta weekend, Homestead too!

Now it’s official, NASCAR won’t be performing at Atlanta Motor Speedway after the teams have been asked to repack.

NASCAR and IndyCar were the only two major sports to still perform across the Atlantic. This is no longer the case for NASCAR, which asked its teams to put away the equipment and take the direction of North Carolina. As a result, the Atlanta trials are postponed.

No date has yet been confirmed or mentioned by NASCAR authorities. Unless you place races on weekdays, the first free weekend is none other than the Easter weekend from April 10 to 13.

Additionally, an announcement has also been made for next week at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, again no races will be held on the 1.5 mile oval of Florida.

It is now two full weekends that must be replaced for NASCAR.

Note that this is the first time since 2001 that a Cup race has been postponed for a reason other than the weather. In September 2001, the New Hampshire race initially scheduled just after the September 11 attacks was rescheduled as the last event of the season.

In 2001 there was not yet the principle of the playoffs in the various national series of NASCAR. All races canceled during the regular season must be rescheduled during the regular season.
