The campaign has started – La Terre de Chez Nous

Posted on: December 10, 2021

Winter is the traditional period for carrying out compulsory prophylaxis by blood sampling for suckler cattle farms and analysis on tank milk for dairy cattle farms.

The organization and monitoring of bovine prophylaxis are delegated to the GDS by the DDETSPP. The management, in the event of unfavorable results, is ensured by the DDETSPP or the GDS according to the disease. Launched in November, the campaign will end on April 15, 2022.
Health veterinarians have received the list of farms for which they must carry out a prophylactic intervention.
➤ To organize yourself as well as possible:
❚ Regulatory prophylaxis must be carried out before April 15, 2022 (Table 1).
❚ From a practical and economic point of view, it makes sense to limit the number of interventions and not to delay too long in the season, in order to avoid any organizational difficulty in the event of an unfavorable result.
❚ It is essential to have appropriate means of restraint, to work in good conditions and in a secure environment. In the event of an obvious lack of restraint of the animals and / or in the event of failure to carry out 40 blood tests within an hour for the farms concerned by the reduction of IBR prophylaxis, tariff supplements (detailed in table 3) may be applied.
➤ BVD: serological monitoring in lactating farms
Suckler farms in Doubs are subject to a BVD serological survey, with a view to preparing for phase II of the eradication program and on cattle aged 24-36 months and over 36 months old (already taken each year as part of regulatory prophylaxis), as well as from the 12-24 month age group.
10 cattle of each of these three age groups are selected upstream by the GDS (and identified on the document accompanying the samples) to be analyzed by serology.
The costs of analyzes relating to the serological survey are covered by the GDS. Each farm concerned is informed by the GDS in due time and must plan to make the animals in question available to the veterinarian during the prophylaxis.
