“The degree of damage to the structures and systems of these nuclear installations and their impact on safety require additional assessments based on the results of thorough examinations by special services of the operating organization,” the report says.
Also, as a result of a fire caused by shelling, the building of the training center, located in close proximity to the ZNPP industrial site, was significantly damaged.
The inspectorate noted that the personnel who were on shift during the seizure of the ZNPP site by Russian troops were forced to continue working for more than a day. There are no dead or injured among the staff.
The rotation of operational personnel has already been carried out, it is tentatively planned that the new shift will work until 23.00. At the same time, the station employees are working under pressure from the military of the Russian Federation, who seized the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
“Change in the radiation state in the Zaporozhye region was not recorded, the radiation gamma background is within normal limits,” the inspection emphasized.
State of power units:
Power unit No. 1: scheduled preventive maintenance.
Power unit No. 2: currently operating to meet its own needs.
Power unit No. 3: disconnected from the grid, work is underway to cool the nuclear installation and transfer it to a cold shutdown state.
Power unit No. 4: in operation, electric power increased to 825 MW, load of the power unit continues.
Power units No. 5, 6: cooling of nuclear installations is carried out.
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the banks of the Kakhovka reservoir. Every year, the station, which has six power units, generates a fifth of the total annual electricity production in Ukraine, reported on the Energoatom website.
On February 26, an adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Vadym Denisenko, reported that the Russian military approached Energodar and deployed “Grads” aimed, among other things, at the Zaporozhye NPP.
On March 3, the Russian invaders shelled Energodar and were able to penetrate the city. On the night of March 4, the city authorities announced that the occupiers shelling the station and a fire started there. Later it became known that the Russians got into the first power unit.
In the morning at the nuclear power plant they reported that hostilities near the station have ceased, the background radiation level is within the normal range. The regulator passed the same information to the International Atomic Energy Agency. Ukraine informed the IAEA that the fire at the nuclear power plant did not affect the main equipment, “the plant personnel are taking measures to eliminate the consequences,” told in the organization.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky recorded an emergency video message, in which he called on the world to “wake up” and respond to Russia’s actions. “No country, except Russia, has ever fired at nuclear power units. For the first time in our history, in the history of mankind, a terrorist state resorted to nuclear terror,” the president said. “Ukraine is 15 nuclear units. If there is an explosion, this is the end of everything “End of Europe. This is the evacuation of Europe. Only immediate European action can stop Russian troops.”
This is the second nuclear power plant in Ukraine, which is attacked by Russian invaders. February 24, the first day of the invasion, they captured the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Kiev region and staff were taken hostage.
March 4 in the morning the fire at the Zaporozhye NPP was eliminated Ukrainian rescuers.
The State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine reported that invaders took control of the nuclear power plant site.
Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, claims that Russians control the station partially.
