The British commemorate Prince Philip, the funeral will take place on Saturday / Day

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Wellby, who will also preside over Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday, stressed that the words did not describe the depth of sadness the loss had caused to the royal family and everyone else. “His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh grabbed the hand that life had given him with amazing will and steadfastly followed its call,” said the archbishop, describing Prince Philip’s long-standing duties to the queen and the state.

The country declared mourning until the funeral on April 17 in the chapel of St. George (Wind) in Windsor Castle. The start of the funeral service at 15.00 will be marked by a moment of national silence.

According to the Covid-19 restriction regulations, only 30 people will attend the funeral – Prince Philip’s children, grandchildren and other very close family members. They will also not be visited by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, so that more members of the deceased’s family can do so.

People laid flowers at Windsor Castle over the weekend, although the government and the royal family have asked not to do so. Former Prime Minister John Meyer called on the BBC on Sunday to give the queen the opportunity to mourn the man she had been marrying for 73 years.
