The Boeing 737 MAX will be licensed in the EU around January

EASA would join the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which issued permission to return aircraft to the air this week. However, the condition was conditional on the manufacturer ensuring the necessary technical modifications to the aircraft and ensuring thorough training of pilots.

“In our case, it is likely that a decision that will allow (those aircraft) to return to service sometime in January,” Ky was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Boeing was forced to suspend operations of its best-selling 737 MAX aircraft worldwide after accidents in Indonesia and Ethiopia. 346 people died in them. The flight control system proved to be a problem, forcing the manufacturer to make adjustments. The machine could not air into the air for 20 months, which is the longest such break in the history of commercial aviation.

The decommissioning of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft cost the manufacturer about $ 20 billion (approximately CZK 444 billion). It also affected the company’s contractors and triggered an investigation by Boeing and the FAA, due in part to weak oversight of aircraft development.

The Czech company Smartwings owns seven Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, and another 21 planes were to take over later last year. At the end of last year, the company estimated losses due to aircraft shutdown at more than 1.5 billion crowns.
