THE UNESCO MODEL REGION for sustainable development starts in Freiburg-Kappel. On Friday evening, government president Brbel Schfer (right) together with Freiburg environmental mayor Christine Buchheit (second from left) and Kappel mayor Christoph Brender (left) presented the first welcome sign on Grotalstrasse at the entrance to Kappel. The Black Forest biosphere area has existed since 2016 on an area of approximately 63,000 hectares in the southern Black Forest, which extends over parts of the districts of Lrrach, Waldshut, Breisgau-Schwarzwald and Freiburg.
