The biggest Wi-Fi update in decades is on its way, but for Russia it is not yet relevant

According to the site The VergeThe Wi-Fi Alliance, the Wi-Fi standard, has begun certifying the first wave of devices supporting the new Wi-Fi 6E standard. Many of them are likely to be seen next week at CES 2021 virtual exhibition. The new Wi-Fi 6E-enabled products will bring with them the biggest Wi-Fi update in decades.

According to the source, “The coming Wi-Fi upgrade is essentially like moving from a two-lane road to an eight-lane highway.” Wireless connections should be faster and more reliable. Many of the new smartphones, laptops, TVs, routers and more this year will be equipped with Wi-Fi 6E modules, which means the addition of the 6 GHz band to the traditional 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.

Unfortunately, the 6 GHz band is not licensed in all countries around the world. It is expressly approved for use in the US. The UK, EU, South Korea, Chile and the United Arab Emirates are preparing to give the green light to the new standard, and regulators in Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Japan and several other countries are also inclined to give such permission in the future. In Russia, this issue is not very rosy. Certification is still allowed for devices of the Wi-Fi 6 standard, which does not include the 6-GHz band.

Individual devices with Wi-Fi 6E support began to appear in September 2020. A real influx of new products is expected in the first months of this year, and in total, as we are sure analysts, in 2021, about 300 million devices with Wi-Fi 6E support will be released to the market.

Smartphones will be the first to support Wi-Fi 6E thanks to Qualcomm SoC Snapdragon 888… A whole package of flagship devices from all leading manufacturers will soon be released on it.
