New Film, Honey don’t!, Set to Premiere as Second Installment in “Lesbian B-Movie trilogy”

The highly anticipated second installment in a planned “lesbian B-movie trilogy” is slated for release, following the polarizing debut of Drive-away Dolls. The first film, released in Febuary 2024, garnered $2.4 million in its opening weekend and a total domestic gross of $5 million. Despite its premiere at the Cannes Midnight Screening (out of competition), early reviews for Honey Don’t! have been mixed, and a subdued marketing campaign suggests a modest box office debut. The film features a notable ensemble cast, including Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza, and Chris Evans. However, with limited screen expansion and a distinct niche tone, Honey Don’t! is positioned as a specialty release.

August 29

Darren Aronofsky, acclaimed for his intense dramas such as The Wrestler and Black Swan, is venturing into the high-octane crime caper genre with Caught Stealing, possibly his most commercially accessible project to date. Set against the backdrop of a gritty 1990s New york City, the film also boasts a soundtrack by the English post-punk band Idles.based on Charlie Huston’s cult novel, Caught Stealing marks a meaningful tonal departure for Aronofsky, offering the director an prospect to connect with a broader audience beyond his established arthouse following. While Labor Day weekend has historically presented a varied box office landscape, Caught Stealing has the potential to capture attention with its blend of chaos, charm, and commercial appeal. Aronofsky’s existing fanbase may also be drawn to the film if its trailer is screened prior to the remastered 15th-anniversary IMAX showings of Black Swan on August 21st and 24th.
