The biggest competition for Overwatch in the form of TF2 has just broken the record for online players

Overwatch has a new competitor returning to its popularity?

Overwatch has always been compared to Team Fortress 2. Back in 2014, Blizzard developers admitted that TF2 was a great inspiration for them and one of their favorite games at the same time.

Now that Overwatch is unlikely to gain popularity, TF2 is experiencing a sort of second youth. The online player record has just been broken for the first time since 2012.

Rekordy TF2, a Overwatch

It’s hard to say if Team Fortress 2 will affect Overwatch in any way. In fact, despite the many differences, the community of the two games often mixed up. Now, with the new community update to TF2, it has broken the record for online numbers.

According to Valve’s statistics, over 130,000 people have logged into the game. It is especially impressive that we are talking about a game from 13 years ago. All this thanks to a new update, bringing something like a Halloween event.

Scream Fortress XII brought four new maps, over twenty cosmetic items, and tons of other additions that players have been waiting for for a long time.

This is certainly an interesting case of how a given game can revive after years of oblivion and, interestingly, the popularity was completely unaffected by Twitch, and yet it will be one of the main ways Blizzard promotes Overwatch 2. Polish streamers are already “getting along” for streaming Shadowlands, as well as for the second part of OW.

Will Team Fortress 2 harm Overwatch’s popularity in any way? Probably not. It’s often the same community, but TF2 is definitely not without flaws that take its toll quite quickly. Especially it is about the fight between bots and cheaters.

Valve’s official statistics also include the aforementioned bots, so it is difficult to judge how many TF2 players are actually and how many bots.
