The current world number 5 has been out of tennis since last year’s Australian Open as he underwent knee surgery and took an extended break to rest and recover.

For the first time since he started playing Grand Slam tennis, Federer did not take part in the men’s draw at Melbourne Park as he retired from the tournament, claiming he did not have the physical form required to compete with the best.
