The base is from Octavia, but it travels almost 300 km / h. The Audi RS3 corneres sideways

Several sports models are used on the MQB Evo platform, which is also used by the fourth generation of the Škoda Octavia. After all, the Octavia RS can be included among them. However, neither she nor the Cupra Formentor VZ5 or Volkswagen Golf R achieves the performance of the new Audi RS3. This will reach a speed of 100 kilometers in less than four seconds.

The alpha and omega of the new generation of the compact Audi sports car is the engine. Under the hood, there is a unique five-cylinder in the segment – a supercharged 2.5 TFSI unit – which now has 294 kW, ie 400 horsepower. The Cupru Formentor VZ5 is powered by the same five-cylinder, but with an output of “only” 287 kW, ie 390 hp. In addition, the power of the car is available earlier than its predecessor, between 5600 and 7000 rpm. The torque of 500 Nm then increased by 20 Nm between generations.

Power on all wheels is sent by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and the whole system allows the Audi RS3 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h, but the limiter can be unlocked and the maximum value rises to 280 km / h. And even then there is a way to increase – just pay extra for a dynamic package with ceramic brakes and the limiter suddenly moves up to 290 km / h.

For comparison, the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S with a supercharged four-cylinder with an output of 310 kW, ie even higher than Audi, and all-wheel drive accelerates to 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds and travels a maximum of 270 km / h with the limiter unlocked.

Audi will offer the RS3 as a sedan or a five-door hatchback Sportback, and both go hand in hand with other modifications with a powerful engine. The exhaust thus has a variable control of the flaps, which allows you to play with the sound of the engine, on the rear axle is an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch on the drive shaft to each wheel. This ensures the optimal distribution of torque between the wheels according to the situation and above all – it allows, for example, cornering in a controlled skid on the circuit. The system allows all the power to be transmitted to only one rear wheel. The car even has a specific drift mode.

The standard sports chassis is 25 mm closer to the road than the standard Audi A3, and adaptive shock absorbers are also available on request. The RS3 also has standard progressive steering, where its gear decreases as the steering wheel angle increases. Another novelty is the modular driving dynamics controller, in other words a system that collects data from components that affect lateral travel and synchronizes it so that Audi still offers the best possible driving characteristics.

Ventilated discs with internal cooling and a diameter of 375 or 310 mm at the rear take care of stopping, but ceramic discs with a diameter of 380 mm are also available at an additional cost.

The exterior is traditionally enhanced by specific bumpers, a radiator grille design or a diffuser with a double tailpipe. Instead of standard LED lights, the car can also have Matrix LED headlights, which have stretched digital daytime running lights in the lower corners. For example, the pixel motif of a checkerboard flag appears on them, and when the car is unlocked or locked, the inscription RS3 appears in one half of the checkerboard and in the other. As standard, the car has 19-inch alloy wheels, and the paint range is complemented by a new shade of green and gray, while the sedan can have a black contrasting roof for the first time.

Inside, the flattened steering wheel (round is also available as an option at first glance) and the sports seats with distinctive side guidance, which can be combined with black, red or green stitching in combination with the optional Nappa leather. Optional design packages also add red or green, adding color elements in several places. Digital alarm clocks are standard, which can show, for example, lap time or the time required to accelerate. A multimedia system with a central touch screen can also transmit specific information.

Orders for the Audi RS3 in both body versions will open in mid-August, and will be launched in the autumn. RS3 Sportback costs at least 1,552,900 crowns, RS3 as a limousine comes to at least 1,626,900 crowns.
