The Barnasants offers 140 concerts with 80% of proposals in Catalan

The Valencian singer-songwriter Pau Alabajos will inaugurate this Sunday the Barnasants festival, which under the slogan of “Culture or barbàrie” offers a program of about 140 concerts, most of them, 80 percent, in Catalan and offered by local and local artists. , due to the coronavirus.

The director and alma mater of the songwriting cycle in a broad sense of the term, Pere Camps, explained yesterday at a press conference that the global health situation will mark, once again, the Barnasants, which will recover suspended concerts in 2020 – which come to mean 10 percent of the program of the new edition – such as those of Meritxell Gené, Andreu Valor or Xavier Baró. One of the backbones of this year’s cycle is the consolidation of its “confederal character”, with a poster that includes performances in Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, the south of France and L’Alguer, penetrating its fabric and “establishing complicities and alliances ”.

In a program so wide in density and time (the last concert will be the Bestiari by Josep Carner, on May 30 in L’Alguer) there is much to choose from, with numerous presentations and premieres. Maria del Mar Bonet and Borja Penalba will release their album recorded live in the middle of the pandemic and in co-production with the festival. You will be able to listen to the new albums by Eduard Iniesta, Òscar Briz, Quico Pi de la Serra (these three praised by the festival director), Montse Castellà, Paolo Dessì or Guiu Cortés (far from his alter ego El Niño de la Hipoteca).

As is usual and being a referential festival, the list of hyper-consolidated figures and names is extensive, such as Paco Ibáñez, Roger Mas, Tomeu Penya, the aforementioned Quico Pi de la Serra, Cesk Freixas, Pancho Varona, Toti Soler, Pau Riba or Javier Rubial. Or those that are part of the collaborative sphere with the Tradicionàrius “sister festival”, such as Elèctrica Dharma, Biel Majoral, Maria Arnal i Marcel Bagés, Jaume Arnella or Maria Rodés.

Pere Camps was also realistic in recognizing that “we will continue to suffer from the roller coaster we are on”, hoping that the cultural spaces chosen by the festival will not close: “we have chosen spaces that with their reduced capacity for the most part do not exceed one hundred people, such as the Casinet de Hostafrancs, where we do more than thirty concerts ”. Despite this, the “philosophical concept” of Barnasants has not changed; and although we will not have any guest country – last year it was Cuba and this year it is not viable either – this fact consolidates, even more, the proximity concerts ”. Closely linked to the coronavirus, Camps assured that the main objective of this 26th edition of the cycle “is to guarantee work for all people. We are clear that we will do all the concerts, even if we have to postpone some of them ”.

Various tributes

The cycle will remember Teresa Pàmies, Georges Brassens, Guillem d’Efak, Guillermina Motta and Jaime Gil de Biedma

Among other attractive proposals, the festival will recover the show produced by the collective Bruixa com Nosaltres, made up of Sílvia Comes, Anna Roig, Laura Simó and Mone Teruel, who will pay tribute to Guillermina Motta. Or the centenary of Georges Brassens, which will motivate two shows: Between the gralla and the mandolin, by Miquel Pujadó with the Italian Albert Patrucco, and Brassens woman, Directed by Pere Pons and with the voices of Eva Dénia, Anna Roig, Maria Rodés and Mariola Membrives.

There will also be a reminder of Guillem d’Efak’s work by the hand of his countryman Marcel Pich, the pioneer of the Valencian song Lluís Miquel, the poems of Jaime Gil de Biedma through Sílvia Comes or, especially, that of the writer Teresa Pàmies in charge of the pianist Elisabet Raspall and the actress Tilda Espluga, coinciding with the 50 years since the Lleida author returned from exile to collect the Josep Pla award for Testament in Prague.
