THE BALL – Weigl in the crosshairs? «Gotze was not our biggest transfer…» (Eintracht Frankfurt)

Oliver Glasner, manager of Eintracht Frankfurt, rejoiced at the signing of Mario Gotze. The German attacking midfielder was on his feet at Benfica but the eagles ended up not following the demands of Gotze, who fled to the Europa League winner.

Asked whether the former PSV Eindhoven player was the biggest move in the Eintracht market, Glasner joked.

«Gotze is not that tall, he is only 1m70. Alario (former Leverkusen striker), for example, is much taller than him. Seriously, I’m really happy to work with Gotze. It brings a lot of experience to play in the Champions League, which was something we were aiming for. I talked a lot with him, explained our project and how he can help us”, said the Austrian coach, in an interview with Bild.

This market, as the German press has reported, could also take Julian Weigl to Eintracht Frankfurt. The midfielder is not guaranteed continuity at Luz and a return to the Bundesliga is not ruled out.
