“The 12 founding clubs represent billions of fans and 99 European trophies. We are all together at a critical moment, in order to design a competition to fight for long-term sustainable football, increasing solidarity and giving fans and amateur footballers a set of exciting games that will increase the passion for the game », revealed Andrea Agnelli, president of Juventus and ‘vice’ of the European Super League.

In the same note the format of this competition is revealed:

– 20 clubs, with 15 founders guaranteeing a permanent place and five places allocated through a qualification;

– The games will take place in the middle of the week, so as not to disturb domestic competitions;

– The race will start in August, with two groups of 10 teams, played over two laps. The first three qualify directly for the quarter-finals, while the fourth and fifth will dispute the last spot in a play-off. There follows a phase to be eliminated, with the final to be played in May, on a neutral field.
