The Football Observatory analyzed this season’s global data on passing attempts and, analyzing more than a thousand teams in 71 leagues, Roger Schmidt’s Benfica are third, with Manchester City the most prolific, with 754 attempts per game in the Premier League. League.

Only two of the 1,226 clubs surveyed also made more than 700 passes per game: Albirex Niigata (711) from the second Japanese league and Benfica (708).

In the Premier League, for example, Manchester City make an average of 2.1 times more passes per game than the club that tries the least, Bournemouth: they are 754 against 352. The minimum in the first 5 leagues was found in Getafe, in the Spaniards (329).

The percentage of successful passes was also analyzed, as well as their distribution between forward (90 degree angle), backward and sideways. The highest number of successful passes was recorded by PSG (91.3%), ahead of Manchester City (90.8%) and Real Madrid (90.0%). Istanbul Basaksehir leads the ranking in the back passes (20.2% of the total), Bodø / Glimt in the side passes (61.3%) and the Argentine Deportivo Riestra is in the lead in the forward passes (60.8 %).

Looking only at the Portuguese championship, Benfica are then in the lead with 708 attempts, well ahead of Sporting, with 599, and FC Porto, with 526.
