Forward Adewale Sapara, from Leixões, went public to report «the biggest disrespect» felt in his career, after a supporter of the Matosinhos emblem spat in his face, after the draw with Chaves (1-1).
“Football for me is one of the greatest blessings I’ve ever had, but on the other hand, it manages to be very unfair and ungrateful. It is not a secret or news to anyone the disrespect that there is often towards players, but yesterday, I was the target of the biggest disrespect in my entire career so far», began by writing the player.
«In yesterday’s game against GD Chaves, the result may not have been what was expected but I consider that I had a good performance and I know that those who saw and followed the game can agree. At the end of the game, a Leixões fan approached me and attacked me, spitting in my face for no valid reason (not forgetting that we are fighting a pandemic every day that doesn’t want to give us a truce). I have never felt so disrespected, humiliated and disappointed as I still feel now, Leixões has a flood of fantastic fans, but yesterday I also learned that they have ungrateful and clueless fans.”
Sapara also said that those responsible for the club are aware of the incident, so that responsibilities can be determined, and asked for “more empathy and respect for the players”.
