This Monday, Madeira recorded the highest temperature ever in February, with the Ponta do Sol weather station, located about 18 kilometers from Funchal, reaching 28.9 degrees centigrade at 12.00 pm, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere.

The capital (Funchal) registered the second highest temperature, reaching 28.1 degrees, followed by Quinta Grande, with 25.8 degrees, indicated the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The highest values that had been recorded in February were in 2004 (27 degrees) and in 1949 (26.6 degrees).

Under the influence of a mass of hot air, dry and accompanied by dust from the Sahara, in North Africa, the south coast of Madeira is under meteorological warning for hot weather until 21.00 hours this Monday.

“The mass of hot air will continue on Tuesday, but with less intensity,” said the IPMA.
