Former Defense Minister Júlio de Lemos Pereira Castro Caldas died on Saturday morning at 76.
Castro Caldas was Minister of Defense in the second government of António Guterres between 1999 and 2001 and president of the Bar in two terms, from 1993 to 1999.
Prior to being a minister, Julio Castro Caldas had been a Member of Parliament between 1980 and 1983, after being elected by the PSD in the Viana do Castelo constituency.
Between November 2001 and 2012, Castro Caldas served as a member of the Superior Council of the Public Prosecution Service.
Graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, he also founded the association SEDES and the Portuguese Arbitration Society.
