The average price of electricity in Latvia decreased last week

Last week, electricity price fluctuations in “Nord Pool” trade areas were different. In Latvia and Estonia, the weekly average price of electricity decreased by 2% and reached 113.88 EUR/MWh in both trading areas, AS informs “Latvenergo“.

Meanwhile, the price of electricity in Lithuania increased by 6% to an average of 125.21 EUR/MWh. At the same time, the price of the “Nord Pool” system fell by 23% to 89.42 EUR/MWh.

Last week, the reduction in the price of the “Nord Pool” system was mainly facilitated by the 56% increase in the development of wind power plants in the Nordic countries, as well as lower prices of energy products. Meanwhile, in the Baltics, electricity production in wind power plants decreased by 19% compared to the week before. In addition, the energy flow from Sweden’s SE4 trading area was 3% lower than the previous week, having a greater impact on the price of electricity in Lithuania. A slight reduction in the price of electricity in Estonia and Latvia was facilitated by 6% higher energy flows from Finland, where the price fell by 24% to an average of 70.66 EUR/MWh.

In the “Nord Pool” region, electricity consumption was 9,005 GWh, and development volumes – 10,041 GWh.

Total electricity consumption in the Baltic States increased by 2% to 575 GWh. Electricity consumption in Latvia increased by 1% to 139 GWh. The amount of electricity consumed in Estonia was 185 GWh, which is 3% higher than the week before. In Lithuania, consumption increased by 2% and was 251 GWh.

Last week, electricity generation in the Baltic States remained at the level of the previous week, and a total of 422 GWh was produced. In Latvia, the amount of electricity generation increased by 5% to 219 GWh. Meanwhile, in Estonia, electricity generation decreased by 4% and was 110 GWh. A similar trend was also observed in Lithuania – production volumes decreased by 4% and 93 GWh were produced.

In the past week, the volume of production versus consumption in Latvia was 157%, in Estonia – 59%, and in Lithuania – 37%. 73% of the electricity consumed in the region was produced in the Baltic States.
