The Attorney General’s Office Names TNI General Suspect for Corruption in Housing Savings

attorney General’s Office appointed the Director of Finance for the Army’s Compulsory Housing Savings (TWP), Brigadier General YAK as a suspect in the alleged case corruption mandatory housing savings fund Indonesian Army in 2013 to 2020.

This case was investigated by a team of investigators at the Deputy Attorney General for Military Crimes. Apart from elements of the TNI, the AGO also named one person from the civilian community as a suspect in this case, namely the President Director of PT Griya Sari Harta, NPP.

“The connectivity investigation team consisting of the Investigating Prosecutor at Jampidmil, the TNI AD Military Police Center, and the Jakarta High Military Oditurat II have named two people as suspects,” said the head of the AGO’s Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum), Leonard Eben Ezer Simanjuntak to reporters, Friday. (10/12).

In this case, said Leonard, Brigadier General YAK has been detained by the TNI AD Military Police since July 22, 2021 until now. Meanwhile, the NPP suspect is being held at the Salemba Detention Center (Rutan) at the AGO branch as of December 10, 2021.

Leonard explained that this case was related to the placement of TWP funds that were not in accordance with the provisions. Then, there are also investment placements from these funds which are managed without following the provisions.

According to him, the placement of TWP funds that are not in accordance with the provisions can be categorized as state financial losses.

“So, it can be a state loss where the source of TWP funds is from soldiers’ salaries which are deducted by an auto debit system from soldiers’ salaries before being handed over,” he added.

The misappropriated money then becomes a burden for the state because there is an obligation to return it.

The Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) estimates that this corruption case has cost the state finances of Rp. 127.73 billion.

Meanwhile, Brigadier General YAK is alleged to have issued TWP AD’s money to his personal account amounting to Rp. 127.73 billion. The funds were then transferred to the account of the suspect NPP under the pretext of procuring housing lots for TNI soldiers.

“The suspect used the money for personal gain,” he explained.

The Prosecutor’s Office ensnares YAK and NPP with Article 2 Paragraph (1) jo Article 3 jo Article 8 jo Article 18 of the Law on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes.
