The new coronavirus has caused 292 new deaths recorded in hospitals in 24 hours in France, bringing the toll to 2,606 deaths since the start of the epidemic, according to Jérôme Salomon, the director general of health.
According to the latter, 19,354 patients are hospitalized (+ 1,734 in 24 hours) including 4,632 in intensive care, a new influx of 359 people in a single day. And 7,132 were able to return home.
“There has been a 10% increase in incoming patients since yesterday, reflecting contaminations that occurred before the containment measures,” said Mr. Salomon.
“359 serious patients have gone into intensive care today. This is the most important element to watch because it reflects the dynamics of the epidemic,” said the Director General of Health.
“If the containment measures and barrier gestures have been respected, we should see a reduction in the number of people entering intensive care by the weekend,” he added.
Among resuscitation patients, 34% are over 60 years old. Sixty people in intensive care are under 30 years old.
“Between March 16 and 22, there was excess mortality of 9%. An excess mortality in several regions: Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France, Burgundy, Ile-de-France and Corsica”, also made notice Mr. Salomon.
