Union Voices Concern Over Public Service Changes
Swiss union syndicom voiced worry at its Baden assembly about the dismantling of public services, attended by Federal Councilor Albert Rösti. Simultaneously, the union transitioned to new leadership, underscoring the ongoing discussions surrounding workforce and societal shifts.
Rösti Addresses Dismantling Concerns
Federal Councillor Albert Rösti, representing the Swiss Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC), reiterated his belief in the importance of public service. However, he avoided addressing how he planned to halt its perceived dismantling, according to a press release. The union delegates, numbering 176, sought concrete answers to their concerns.
Syndicom emphasized the need to negotiate working conditions in all sectors with social partners. The delegates also called for clear responses to their demands, particularly given the impact of artificial intelligence.
Leadership Changes and Future Direction
The assembly saw the election of Teresa Dos Santos Lima-Matteo and Brigitte Reinhard. This means women now hold the majority of leadership positions within the union, as stated in a recent announcement.
