The Appearance of a Sophisticated Freezer to Save the Effective Covid-19 Vaccine

JawaPos.com – Not all countries can buy the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Because the vaccine, which was discovered by the husband and wife researcher Ugur Sahin and Oezlem Tuereci, must be stored in very cold temperatures to maintain its quality. And, England is certainly able to provide these facilities. Hence, Britain is the first country to approve an emergency permit use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine which is believed to be effective up to 95 percent.

As it turned out, the UK’s very low temperature freezer was very sophisticated. The freezer will stock up on the coronavirus vaccine as Britain’s National Health Center (NHS) prepares to start giving injections next week.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has passed stringent safety tests in no time but requires storage between -70C and -80C so it needs to be stored in a dedicated facility. You can see how state-of-the-art facilities in England are shared by Public Health England (PHE), by showing a row of freezers, each of which can hold more than 80 thousand doses.

PHE says it has secured 58 units across the UK with a total capacity for 5 million doses. The UK has ordered 40 million doses after results last month showed 95 percent effective and tested 43,000 people without safety concerns.

The vaccine will be delivered to recipients, starting with those in nursing homes, NHS patients and staff and vulnerable age groups. The UK compiled a list of 10 groups until the wider population was eligible, in two injections three weeks apart.

The UK government has also ordered 100 million doses of the two-dose Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine which the study claims is 70 percent effective, a figure set to increase to 90 percent after further research. The Oxford vaccine does not require very low temperature storage.

The UK will also get five million doses of the Moderna vaccine, which research says is 94.5 percent effective and will be available in the country in the spring. And it is given in two doses four weeks apart and requires only -20C storage.

The NHS and PHE will adapt tried and tested models of national immunization programs, such as those used for the annual flu shot, to distribute doses across the country. The UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said once a dose arrives, a 12 to 24 hour post-delivery quality assurance process continues to ensure quality during vaccine transport.
