Anita Znutiņa-Ševe graduated from the scenography department of the Moscow Art Theater Studio (1981). She worked as an artist at the Daile Theater (1981–1985) and the National Theater (1985–2003), but since 2003 she has been an artist at the Latvian Puppet Theater.

Anita herself admits that every now and then in life an unpredictable coincidence happens, which apparently was intended, and gives a new and good direction to a person’s life.

As her colleagues write, her meeting with the dolls was also a coincidence. Anita Znutiņa-Ševe entered the Puppet Theater at the time when the National Theater was undergoing reconstruction. Anita says: “I can be grateful to Elsa Radziņa and Olģerts Šalkonis. They had a play based on the letters of Gustave Flaubert and Georges Sands “Dear Teacher!”, the design of which I had worked on. It was decided that this play would be shown in the neighboring theater during the renovation of the theater – “Dolls” “. I went with them.” Here Anita met the head of the literary department of the Puppet Theater and public relations specialist Daina Strelevic, who told her that the theater was looking for a main artist. Pāvils Šenhofs, the previous artist of the theater, had recently resigned from this position.

With his encouragement, encouragement and watchful supervision, Anita got to know the world of dolls – their structure, management principles. Over the years, she has become an expert connoisseur of puppets and has invented puppets of all kinds of mechanisms and materials, and created costumes and scenography for countless stage stories. As the artist says: “Everything depends on a person’s will – whether he wants to learn it or not. Whether he wants to understand the doll, this object of inanimate matter that needs to be brought to life. Moreover, unlike adult theater, here the artist has to involve much more fantasy. the puppet theater is like stepping into a completely different place. It’s like a magical dimension that pulls you in.”

The artist has created puppets and scenography for many favorite shows – “Joke after the Alphabet”, “Snow Queen”, “Doll Lolīte”, “What’s Happening in Dižmeža”, “Princess on the Pea”, “The Tale of Diegabiksi”, “The Adventures of Pinocchio”, “Rūkiši” and the Old Man”, “Puss in Boots”, “Brother and Carlson who lives on the roof”, “Carmen. The female version”. These are just some of the performances in which Anita has put her hand as an artist, conjuring up a world that awakens children’s imagination and love for theater.

The collective of the Latvian Puppet Theater congratulates the artist on the holiday and wishes her bold ideas, exciting productions and satisfaction, watching her works come to life on stage.
